Done in 2 months.

Hello Labo is kind of digital pet but instead of playing with your pet, you make experiences and tests on extremophiles.

At Artfx, we did this project in collaboration with Genopolys.
Audio Workshop helped our team by making Sound design of the project.

I worked mainly on UX and Game design, by making Game design document and in part on Level, Content and visual Scripting on Unreal Engine 4 with another Game designer.

Here an extract of the "Habitat".
For this part I worked on all GD and gameplay programming (visual scripting) aspect.
You can play Hello labo by downlad it on itch.io !

In our team, there was no programer, so we split tasks with the second game designer.
Sadly with the 2 months we had, it was complex to make everything we wanted to do.

I would have liked to have a quest design, so the informations we wanted to give to the children would have been reenforced and playful. Given by the little scientist we can see at the beginning of the game.

Also, a mood system was supposed to be added, depending on what the player does in the habitat, the Tardigrade would have been sad, happy, angry, an example, if you take food but don't give it to the animal, he would be angry. The mood would have been adjusted in the lab.
The lab with the mood system linked to the experience would have given an animal, with some other emotion, exhausted, proud, arrogant.

How the game was made

At the very beginning we were asked to create three concepts on game with a main subject the extremophiles.

While I was doing research in which extremophile could be interesting in video games and in which we could create good mechanics without misrepresent them, my co-worker Game designer was concepting the genre of the three concepts and asking us (the team) our opinion.

At the end of this phase, we were able with the another Game designer to create these Game Concept Document :

After debriefing with the ladies representing the CNRS, their favorite concept was the digital pet.

We learn that the game needed to be played within 3 to 5 minutes, so we simplified the concept and the scope also seeing the time we had to realise it. Here the final Game Concept Document of Hello Labo.

From this we created the Game Design Document and of course the game !
